There Will Be A Welcoming

So, a new blog, for the first time in about 15 years.

Over the years I’ve been away from blogging, the world has moved on from it. People’s thoughts go online on sites owned by corporations, their words used to feed algorithms, their patterns serving to deliver them personalised advertising so they can be more effective as consumers.

I’m as much a feckless consumer as anyone (he types from his new MacBook Air), but I choose to put my words here for a few reasons.

Firstly, it’s to start building a bit of a personal brand. I’m a writer, and while I’m unpublished as yet, I do not intend that to be the case forever. I’ve looked into traditional publishing, and it seems to me, to be an industry comprised largely of gate keepers – so I’m probably not going to spend much effort on going that route. But if I intend to self publish, then the sooner I start to build an audience.

Secondly, I’m an only child, and I’m not good at sharing… especially with corporations. MY words. My thoughts. You want them? Pay me.

You, as a reader of this site though, you can pay me with your attention. Thanks for doing that so far.

Thirdly, but possibly mostly, I’m a bit of a control freak. Possessive. A bit selfish. I don’t mind sharing, but I will retain control.

So. What am I going to talk about here?

Writing will be a big part of it. I write (albeit not as much as I have in the past), and I think about writing a lot. My writing in particular, but about writing in general as well. Sometimes, I may even share something I’ve written.

Music and Gaming are both big parts of my life. So, they’ll come up, I have no doubt. Similarly, TV and movies – not reviews as such, but thinking about them in a textual form.

As a writer, you become an avid student of people. To write them well, you need to increase your understanding of how people work, you need to figure out people’s drives and desires, even the ones they don’t know they have. You need to be not only and observer of the human condition, but you need to be able to interpret that condition, translate your understanding of it into text.

People have always been somewhat mysterious to me, myself included. So, I’ll write about what I learn there.

Technology has always been a big part of my life, so it will inevitably come up.Probably not too often though.

I don’t intend to get into politics or dissections of the news. I’m intentionally oblivious to much that is going on in the world around me, and I’m much happier for it.

So. That’s the plan.

I’m a writer. I’m a motorcyclist, a gamer, a bassist and I have a day job because none of those pay the bills.

Yet.

I’ve bought the ticket, now let’s take the ride.

I’m Ozzy.

Welcome aboard.
